Nissan GT-R: The Order Book Is Officially Closed

2025-03-10

I regret to inform you that it is now too late to order a Nissan GT-R. The Japanese automaker has officially shut down its order system. Once production is completed for this final batch, the factory will close its doors.

For now, there is no elite sports car in sight to replace the GT-R, but you never know—Nissan might surprise us.

An Exceptional Machine

The Nissan GT-R hit the market in 2007, and at the time, it was an incredibly impressive machine. It delivered exceptional performance for its price. Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 produced 471 horsepower. While that figure may seem modest today, it was more than enough to compete with most exotic cars on the market.

Today, the Nissan GT-R boasts 562 horsepower in its standard version and 600 horsepower in its NISMO variant. It remains one of the most beloved cars in the tuning world and is highly sought after for drag racing due to its outstanding durability. Over the years, it has shattered numerous records. In short, it has built a solid reputation, making its departure even more bittersweet.

The fact that the Nissan GT-R has undergone very few changes between 2007 and today proves just how great a car it was. While Nissan made various improvements over the years, the core remained largely the same. The GT-R has undoubtedly been one of the most iconic cars of its era.

An Electric Future

Until recently, rumors suggested that a fully electric car would replace the GT-R. However, Nissan has not provided any official details on the matter. Given the automaker’s precarious financial situation, it makes sense for them to focus on stabilizing their finances before launching a high-performance, limited-production sports car.

It is also possible that Nissan could change course and opt for a hybrid powertrain for the GT-R’s successor. In fact, this is the latest rumor circulating online. Either way, we will have to be patient and wait for an official announcement from the Japanese manufacturer to get a clearer picture.
